The main differences between my draft and final Script are that I have written out the script in full and I have also added more detail about type of music and location. Also I have planned my interview questions in my final shooting script, which means I shall be able to be more organised on shoot and I will definitely be able to guide the documentary and interview into the same shape and flow as the script and not waste time or man power. Also I have organised the layout better by using a title page and Also I added up the running time to check that it is around ten minute like my proposal As I chose to do a documentary there for the layout of my script I different to film such as a drama. This is because you can't script a documentary such as this perfectly as there are so many variables. For example the documentary is based around an interview and I can't control what my subject is going to say, I can only guide the interview in a certain way with questions. That is why I have chosen to write a 3 section script so at least then even without an exact script , I still have a clear idea of how the documentary is going to play out.
Explain what you know about your client.Explain in detail how your content will be relevant to your client
My client is Cambridge county council. They are looking for a professional looking video that promotes Cambridge in a positive light. They are trying to attract people into Cambridge to visit or study, so it has to show off the more positive features of Cambridge.
Explain in detail how realistic and feasible your content will be to make.
I think my content will be really realistic and feasible because it takes a different different approach on the brief given and tries to, instead of presenting Cambridge as a perfect fairytale city, change some of it's more negative by showing off different aspects of Cambridge either in a new light or that are less well known and this maeks the video more realistic. I believe it will be feasible and easy to make realistically because every location is within a couple of miles of the other locations, so is easy and cheap to travel to and also there will be no script to learn, so the presenter/subject can talk fairly freely and this is more natural and realistic but also feasbale as they won't have to learn lines .
Explain what realistic and feasible methods (both digital and physical) your client could use to distribute and market your product.
The most effective and feasible way to distribute the product is probably through social media. This is because my product is aimed at people in their late teens/ early 20's and these are the people that statistically use social media the most. For example, it can be shared on Facebook and twitter and these mediums of social media have the potential to reach millions of people and hit a mass audience, instead of the more traditional methods such as posters, which are both expensive to produce and only hit a small niche in a local area
Do you have all the skills necessary to carry out this task professionally? If not what will you do?
I think I have some of the skills required to do a good job, such as the people skills and team work skills required for interacting with the crew and cast. However, I think I am not experienced eneough in the more technical skills required to carry out this task, because I don't have a lot of filming or editing expirience with the software I have. However, I believe I can overcome this by asking for help from my teacher and by looking up different youtube tutorials and trying them out before the shoot. I think the more practise I can get the better it will be.
Do you know what will be expected of you?
Yes, from the brief that the council gave me I am fairly certain I know what is expected off me. They expect:
Professional looking work
Cambridge not to be portrayed negatively
Good organisation and deadlines met
Communication of feedback between different edits
To be able to give them a copy of the final product or know where to find one in order to use it
Do you know how to make the content you have proposed?
Yes, I believe I know the basics of how to run shoot and edit footage. However, to get a better quality o end product I will make sure I get my work reviewed and ask for help on issues such as subtle colour grading.
Copyright I am aware that because I am filming a documentary that is promoting Cambridge, I have to be careful of what I appear to be filming. For instance, Screen times for different brands and companies might cause a dispute (e.g one company may complain if seen to have a lot less screen time then another and deem this unfair as it isn’t equally promoting both brands). I also have to be conscious of promoting products on my shoot (e.g accidentally promoting a product such as beats headphones if my documentary subject is wearing beats headphones and the logo is clearly seen. This may have negative consequences, such as being asked to take down the video or a fine because I am not being sponsored or asked to promote the product, so I don’t have copyright rights to it. Also, to avoid issues with my actors and crew, I have top make them sign an agreement form. The form explains that my actors cannot sue me and that I can use the shots that have my actors in and use them and portray hem in a way that I want. It also prevents arguments between the actors and myself because it says that can tell hem how to act and they have to do it because of the contract. The actor also says that my crew and I are not liable for anything that happens to my actors on set and throughout filming, meaning they cannot sue me or my company if something is to happen to them. An important copyright issue for my video is music. If I were to use a copyrighted song I would need permission of the artist or the artists recording company to be able to use it in my video without breaching the law . If I don’t ask permission to use the copyrighted song I may face a legal issues, such as fines, bans and imprisonment or I could also be taken to court and prosecuted for illegal using someone else’s intellectual property. To avoid this problem I shall use copyright free music, that is either licensed under the creative commons 4 or royalty free music.tIt also means that I don’t need to ask permission or pay a fine to use the music. All I have to do is credit the music artist and where to get at the end of my video. To avoid any copyright issues I would have to trademark my work, this makes people aware that the video is my intellectual property and I have all the rights for the video . This means, if Cambridge Council wished to display my video they would have to ask permission from my company to use it and may have to pay a fee depending if I wished to charge them or not. I also made all the cast and crew sign a permission form. Here is a video of members of the crew signing it:
Consideration of mise-en-scene Costume: For costume I am going to get my actor to wear casual clothes something that they would wear everyday, Lighting : I will be using natural lighting mainly and tweaking it all her posts . Actors: I am wanting a quite dramatic change in pace and mood as a pathetic fallacy Setting: For setting I am thinking of having it in multiple iconic areas of River, i think make it a real life Location: The location will be varied writinging in Cambridge and also filming
I sent an email to [email protected] who are the city council asking to be able to film around Cambridge. This is the email I sent to them:
LEGAL AND ETHICAL ISSUES
Advertising Standards Association The first ruling that I think may apply to may promotional video is wowcher advert that was advertising a witless program . In their advert they had a claim stating that their product was "permanent fat-reducing treatment” , gave you "Up to 30% fat loss"; and that it was "Non-invasive and totally safe" However, complaints were made questioning the liability of these statements . ASA recovered that the Wowcher advertising was indeed misleading information. The Beauty Company had to take down the advert and get rid of the claim. This may apply to my promotional video because I need to make sure that all of the facts and information I have on my video aren’t misleading and are as accurate as it can be. After this the claim was then discovered, by ASA, to breach CAP Code (Edition 12) rules 3.1 (Misleading advertising) and 3.7 (Substantiation). Now in light of these events Wowcher and the company had to amend their advertising to not include untrue statements. This could happen in my video if I don't fact check all the information I am collating about areas in Cambridge to put in the video and it had made me more cautious on how to source my information and double check it by labelling my sources as well finding a variety of sources The ASA Compliance team challenged whether it was appropriate to schedule alcohol ads in Aquamarine because the film appeared to be principally directed at audiences below the age of 18 years thus breached BCAP Code 32.2 and 132.2.1 In response to this Channel Four Television Corporation (Film 4) agreed that the film was principally directed at audiences below the age of 18 years. They said that due to an error, the advert restriction was not applied. Film 4 said then added an extra reporting measure to ensure this did not happen again. The ASA noted Film 4’s comments and understood that the ads had been broadcast in Aquamarine as the result of an error. The scheduling of alcohol advertisements in a film principally directed at audiences below the age of 18 years breached BCAP Code rule 32.2.1 (Scheduling of Television and Radio Advertisements, Under-18s).ActionAlcohol ads must not appear in programmes principally directed at audiences below the age of 18 years. IT resulted with Film 4 promising to ensure they took more care when scheduling alcohol ads in the future. One potential situation that may cause dispute or complaints to the ASA over my video is the laws over the presentation and representation of alcohol in the video that may occur. For example, I am aiming to film at Parker's Peace Cambridge, which is a social public place for a lot of university students to meet up and is a popular place for social gatherings. As a lot of these students are of the age of 18, they drink alcohol when they meet up. In the ASA code of practice although you are allowed to show casual drinking , you are only allowed to show it if it passes certain conditions like the video must not "be likely to appeal strongly to people under 18, especially by reflecting or being associated with youth culture and as this video is going to be distributed around primary schools , It may cause children to associate alcohol with university and also they might already look at university students as role models and idolize drinking as a lifestyle. To prevent this I will make sure that on location no alcohol is shown only out of focus and that the drinking isn't seen as a peer pressure or a responsibility just as controlled and recreational and casual activity. Also the representaation of alcohol is not allowed when adjacent or the video is directly related to sport activities. This may prove problematic as a lot of students like to play games along side a pint and a chat. This can be problematic as this section of the video will be featuring the park and hopefully a long shot of people playing exercise without the drinking, if not i will either movie the camera so aren't in shot or polity ask them to put the alcohol away for a couple of minutes. Another aspect of the code I need to take into consideration is the privacy code. This is particularly important in regards to my crew as I have all their contact information and I must ensure that customers or other people go through the Ranner productions company if they wish to contact my crew about the film or work. instead of putting their details on screen on credits or in other media. For example, this is what happened some employees at The wheel of yoga company had some of their institutors numbers in an advert and were advertising . It resulted in the clips including instructors numbers were taken down and replaced. I am also aware of being respectful to the members of public around us and I will try not focus or show their face or names especially with out permission. The Intellectual property act - legal issue The intellectual Property Act is where a person owns something they made, crated or thought of and is their idea .On the other hand if someone works under a company then the company owns the idea . The intellectual Property Act is relevant to my promotional video because the promotional video I will make belongs to me. This is becauseI am a freelance work Because my promotional video is my intellectual property I need a way to protect, Copyright is involved. If I copyrighted my video then it means no one can take my documentary or download and use my video without permission. Since I am now working for a client the documentary intellectual property in primarily theres This is because they are the ones that thought of creating a media product to promote Cambridge. This will help me protect my work from people copying your work, distributing copies of it, whether free of it is free or there is a price for the documentary.
