Looking at my chosen brief to see what I need to research for it
Products and markets to research: - Apps - Music - Radio - Websites - Social media
I have already researched music and radio and their history, so I have this research to refer back to.
I will be looking at Spotify because it is an interactive media product that gets the audience more actively involved in controlling the music they listen to , I will be studying the app version of spotify so I can gain an understanding about the layout of an app .
Spotify was founded in Stockholm in 2006 by Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon. The streaming service was launched October 7, 2008.
Spotify has changed dramatically over the past 10 years. For example, in 2008 users could access a wide variety of music but only if they were to search for it themselves and for people that were primarily used to mainly using radio, the concept or choosing and knowing what they want specifically was difficult.
The next main phase in spotify development was in 2013. This is when spotify featured playlists designed by music specialists, tailored to a different groups of likes and dislikes. The problem with this was that, even though Spotify knew some data about you, it wasn't able to give you a personalised playlist specifically designed for you to engage in.
Then brings us to 2015 With 2015 begins the era of "Discover Weekly." The feature creates a weekly personalised playlist to its users each week on Monday morning. The playlists duration is normally about two hours long and is created using Spotify's algorithms.
The difference between free and premium.
Free:
Premium:
Doesn't cost money
Can only listen online
The sound quality is lower (96-160 KPBs)
costs 9.99 per month
Can download up to 3333 song to be played offline
The sound quality is better (320 KPBs)
Why my product now?
I believe my product should be developed now because I believe that all the modern advancements in different technologies such as apps will allows a much much more interactive and immersive world for the audience, allowing the audience to be both consumers and prosumers at the same time. From researching Spotify and the development of app technology it is clear that the audience responds well and enjoys control over elements such as what they are listening to and voicing and sharing their music and opinions, so by creating an app that directly links the audience to choosing and sharing the radio than it will combine both the popular features of radio with the audiences desire to be in control and be both prosumers and consumers of the technology.
