Foley effects are sound effects added to the film during post production. They are recorded often used to replace/create important sounds in film to ensure they are clear and recognisable. Foley adds more colour and detail to a film and just makes it seem more complete, tying visuals and sound closer together.
How is Foley made?
The foley artist watching the clips they need to recreate sounds for, to get an idea of timings for sounds and what kind of sounds they need to make. After that the Foley artist will analyse the sounds and work out exactly how to produce them, by working out what and how many props they shall need. The after that they prep for recording making sure they know exactly what they are recording, have all the props and equipment and timing for production. Then they will record the sounds until the sounds sound like they would perfectly fit in with the filming sequence.
Possible examples of Folely:
Recreating steps by recording someone stepping in time to the scene
Recording rain sounds by recording bacon frying
Recording bone breaking sounds by breaking celary
