M3- Show understanding of feedback and be able to respond to questions
In video 2 there is an opportunity for the client to answer questions at 07:30. I answer all of these questions in the video, however, we also had a client member that was unavailable to come to the pitch of the day so watched the pitch online and sent over some client questions via email.
Below is the feedback questions I received via Email. The questions are in bold and my answer is below
If we could get 75,000 to 100,000 per episode what are the main changes you would make?
The main changes I’d focus on would be an increase in quality in theprogram, so putting more money into the visual and special effects. As well as to the mis en scene, I think thatthis would be themosteffective useof theextramoney because if this was the kind of turn over that each episode was receiving than the core of the show (the writing, characters and actors) would've all been a success, so in order to maintain the fans we have and build upon our fan base.
Specifically, I would increase the amount of futuristic technology seem in the show, because the show is set on a spaceship that i capable of supporting a large amount of people for a long amount of time it already appears that their has been advancements in technology there but to increase this I would find a way t incorporate even more futuristic technology, such as live holograms (made with visual effects) and lasers, ect.
What are the unique selling points of the programme and how could these be advertised to the target audience?
One of the unique selling points of programme would be that the show has a sub genre of sci-fi . This is a good unique selling point because the genre sci-fi is a very popular genre in Tv shows across the world (Star trek, Dr who, black mirror) however the number of hybrid sci-fi and teen drama is not very high and I believe there is a gap in the market for this type of show. Advertising this to the teen target audience would be best to do in online/Social media to quickly and cost effectively reach the mass of our target audience. It would also be best to advertise this in a series of visuals (e.g images of the sci-fi visual and special effects on online posters to be put on apps such as instagram) to appeal to the low attention span of the audience and past paced viewing culture of social media.
Another unique selling point of the show is that it is British. Although on the BBC this is not uncommon and all shows on the BBC are British, the genre of Teen Drama is dominated by America and Canada, so having a British teen drama is actually quite unique within the genre. This is an effective unique selling point because it provides an extra way for the main target audience of British teens to relate to the show as the characters will be from the same place as them. Also this would be effective in reguards to the potential for international sales of the show, as teen drama is a popular genre across the globe and British drama Tv shows have a reputation for being popular internationally (e.g Downton Abbey, Doctor Who, Sherlock and Call the Midwife).
Advertising this would be done most effectively through utilising audio or audio visual promotional material. This is because it grabs the audiences attention more and gives them something really quick to focus on and they can't leave it and come back to it otherwise they miss it and it will also give a clear indication of the identiy and mood of the show.
What was the feedback from your target audience about this idea?
My feedback: The target audience had a few comments about the show specifically they enjoyed how futuristic the show sounded and they especially liked the wisp of smoke going through the title as it added an element of mystery to the title which they thought fitted to the teen drama genre and made them curious about the show and what secrets were in it. However, they were worried that the show setting would make it hard for them to relate to the show easily as it is so different form their own.
Evaluating how I answered the questions asked to me, I believe I answered them reassuringly and thoroughly. However, If I was to re-do this portion of my pitch again I would practise answering these types of questions out loud before the pitch as I had written and planned through in my head answers to similar questions they might have asked, however in person I stuttered and took more pauses than I needed. In addition to this I would make my answers more concise as some of the points I had already semi- covered in the presentation. However, I was able to answer all the questions and I was confident in my knowledge and felt I was well prepared for all of the questions I had t answer.
